Africa’s stories – Bright’s dreams
Emmanuel James Bright ha soli 19 anni ed è nato in Nigeria il 13 ottobre 1999. Ha studiato scienze fino al secondo anno della Senior High School, poi a causa di problemi finanziari ha dovuto smettere e si è messo a pedalare. Emmanuel ha iniziato ad andare in bici mentre frequentava il quinto anno della Basic Primary School, i suoi genitori non erano d’accordo, ma lui sgattaiolava fuori per andare in bici, finché un giorno non venne scoperto dal padre che gli disse di stare attento, tutto ebbe inizio quel giorno.
Emmanuel James Bright is only 19 years old and he was born in Nigeria on October 13th 1999. He studied science until second year of Senior High School, then due to financial problems he had to stop and he started cycling. Emmanuel started riding while he was attending the fifth year of Basic Primary School, his parents didn’t agree, but he was sneaking out to ride a bike, until one day he was discovered by his father who told him to be careful, it all began that day.
Non è facile fare il ciclista in Nigeria ma lui vuole diventare un ciclista professionista per inseguire i suoi sogni: vincere un Mondiale o un Grande Giro. Attualmente va solo in bici perché non ha la possibilità di andare a lavorare dopo i lunghi allenamenti quotidiani.
It is not easy to be a cyclist in Nigeria but he wants to become a professional cyclist to pursue his dreams: win a World Championship or animportant Tour. Currently he only rides a bike because he does not have the possibility to go to work after the long daily workouts.
“Ho iniziato a gareggiare nel 2017- racconta – ma ho ottenuto il mio primo successo solo dopo sei mesi, ero così contento che decisi di continuare per partecipare ad altre competizioni. Nel 2018 sono stato selezionato dalla Nazionale Junior della Nigeria per partecipare agli African Youth Games in Algeria- Sono arrivato 16° nella prova a cronometro e 22° sulla gara su strada”. Quest’anno, per adesso, ha corso soltanto dei Criteium in Nigeria ottenendo tre successi.
“I started racing in 2017- he says – but I got my first success only after six months, I was so happy that I decided to continue to participate in other competitions. In 2018 I was selected by the National Junior Nigeria Cycling Team to participate in the African Youth Games in Algeria, I arrived 16° in the time trial and 22° on the road race”. This year, for now, he has only raced Criteriums in Nigeria with three successes.
Emmanuel si ispira a Christopher Froome, i suoi hobby sono parlare con i suoi amici o guardare un film o una partita di calcio a casa. Il suo piatto preferito è riso e fagioli, mentre il libro che ama leggere è la Bibbia.
Emmanuel is inspired by Christopher Froome, his hobbies are talking to his friends or watching a movie or a football match at home. His favorite dish is rice and beans, while his best book is the Bible.
