Björn Leukemans è nato ad Anversa in Belgio il 1° luglio 1977. Ha corso da dilettante con la squadra belga Mapei-Saeco, nel 1999 arrivò 6° al Campionato del Mondo Under23 e 10° al Campionato Europeo. Nel 2000 divenne professionista con la Vlaanderen 2002 – Eddy Merckx e vinse la seconda tappa del Dekra Open Stuttgart. Nel 2001 corse con la Vlaanderen – T-Interim e raccolse alcuni buoni risultati come il 2° posto al GP Jef Scherens ed un 3° posto alla Vuelta a Murcia e al GP Stad Vilvoorde. Nel 2002 ottenne un contratto di due anni con la Palmans-Collstrop, vinse la terza tappa della Course de la Solidarieté Olympique (2002), il G.P. Beeckman (2002) e il Buggenhout (2003). Nel 2004 con la Mrbookmaker.com vinse la quinta tappa del Tour de Belgique, arrivò 3° al GP Stad Zottegem, 4° alla Rund um Koln e a La Poly Normande. Dal 2005 al 2007 corse con la Davitamon – Lotto con Cadel Evans e Robbie McEwen, ottenendo un altro 2° posto al GP Jef Scherens e un 2° posto al GP de Wallonie. Nel 2007 raccolse numerosi piazzamenti ma soprattutto arrivò 4° alla Parigi-Roubaix. Successivamente è stato sospeso per un valore anomalo. “Ho avuto una sospensione per una settimana, ho corso tutto il tempo come individuo e ho anche vinto una gara. Nessuna squadra voleva prendermi finché il processo era ancora in corso. La Federazione Fiamminga lo sapeva e ha temporeggiato un anno, dopo quell’anno mi hanno dato 6 mesi retroattivi, così sono potuto tornare di nuovo in una squadra, e non hanno perso la faccia. Ma non ero d’accordo e ho continuato, finalmente dopo quattro anni ho avuto la mia assoluzione!!!! “.
Dal 2009 al 2013 corse con la Vacansoleil, ottenne 8 successi e tantissimi piazzamenti. Vinse per 4 volte consecutive la Druivenkoers – Overijse (dal 2009 al 2012) eguagliando il record di successi di Roger de Vlaeminck, la quarta tappa della Etoile de Bességes (2009), la Heistse-Pijl (2011), la prima tappa e la classifica generale del Tour de Limousine (2011). Ottenne anche un 8° e 4° posto al Giro delle Fiandre, rispettivamente nel 2009 e 2010. Nel 2010 giunse 6° alla Parigi-Roubaix mentre nel 2011 arrivò 7°al Giro delle Fiandre e all’Amstel Gold Race e 9° alla Liegi-Bastogne-Liegi. Nel 2014 e 2015 corse con la Wanty-Gobert prima di ritirarsi. In questi anni vinse la prima tappa del Tour de Limousine (2014), la Ronde van Limburg e il GP Jef Scherens nel 2015. Björn ottenne anche il 9° posto al Giro delle Fiandre (2014) e altri risultati in varie corse. Leukemans partecipò a 977 corse, ottenne 20 vittorie e ben 164 piazzamenti nei primi dieci. Vinse la prima gara a 21 anni e l’ultima a 38.
Da quando Björn ha smesso di correre, spende la maggior parte del suo tempo in Spagna dove affitta due ville che ha ristrutturato. Inoltre, sempre in Spagna, vende case con sua moglie, lei ha una società immobiliare chiamata Immolns.

Björn Leukemans is born in Deurne in Belgium on July 1st 1977. He has raced as amateur with a Belgian team called Mapei-Saeco, in 1999 he arrives 6th in the World Championship and 10th in the European Championship. In 2000 he became a professional cyclist with the Vlaanderen 2002-Eddy Merckx team and he won the second stage of Dekra Open Stuttgart. In 2001 he raced with the Vlaanderen – T-Interim team and he picked up some good results such as the 2nd place in the GP Jef Scherens and a 3rd place in a stage of the Vuelta a Murcia and in the GP Stad Vilvoorde. In 2002 he got a contract for two years with the Plmans-Collstrop team, he won the third stage of the La Course de la Solidarieté Olimpique (2002), the G.P. Beeckman (2002) and the Buggenhout (2003). In 2004 with the Mrbookmaker.com team he won the fifth stage of the Tour de Belgique, he arrived 3rd in the GP Stad Zottegem, 4th in the Rund um Koln and in the La Poly Normande. From 2005 to 2007 he raced with the Davitamon-Lotto team with Cadel Evans and Robbie McEwen, getting another 2nd place in the GP Jef Scherens and also a 2nd place in the GP de Wallonie. In 2007 picked up plenty placements but above all he arrived 4th in the Paris-Roubaix. He was subsequently suspended for an altered value. “I had a suspension for one week, I raced the whole time as an individual and even won a race. No team wanted to take me as long as the process was still going on. From 2014 to 2015 he raced withe Wanty-Groupe Gobert before retiring. In those years he won the first stage of the Tour de Limousine (2014), the Ronde van Limburg and the Gp Jef Scherens in 2015. Björn got also the 9th place in the Tour des Flandres (2014) and other plenty placements in varied races. Leukemans has participated in 977 races, he got 20 victories and 164 placements in the first ten postion. He won the first race when he was 21 years old and the last when he was 38.
Since Björn stopped racing, he spends most of his time in Spain where he rents two villas that he has renovated. Also in Spain he sells houses with his wife, she has a real estate company called Immolns.
