Africa’s stories – Muhindo Kyaviro’s motto is “never give up” !
Jimmy Muhindo Kyaviro, detto Djimi , ha soli 23 anni ed è nato a Kayna nella Repubblica Democratica del Congo. Sta studiando Biologia a Goma, una città che sorge sul lago Kivu, vicino al confine con il Rwanda. Jimmy ha iniziato vendendo MTB in un negozio, inizialmente alcuni membri della sua famiglia non erano d’accordo che diventasse un ciclista a causa del traffico e delle pessime condizioni delle strade della sua città. Non è stato facile iniziare ad andare in bici a Goma – dice – perché è uno sport nuovo e la mia è la prima generazione che si sta avvicinando al ciclismo.
Jimmy Muhindo Kyaviro, called Djimi, is just 23 years old and he was born in Kayna in Democratic Republic of Congo. He is studying biology in Goma, a city on the Kivu’s lake, close to the Rwanda’s border. Jimmy started selling MTB in a shop, initially some members of his family did not agree that he becomes a cyclist because in his city there is too much traffic and the roads are in terrible conditions. It wasn’t easy to start biking in Goma – he says – because it’s a new sport and I’m in the first generation that has known cycling.
Come se non bastasse nella sua città può percorre con la bici solo 25 chilometri, c’è molto traffico, non dispone del materiale necessario, non ha sponsor e la sicurezza è pressoché inesistente.
On top of that in his city he can ride with his bike just 25 kilometres, there is a lot traffic, he has not the necessary materials, he has not sponsored and safety is almost non-existent.
Jimmy nonostante mille difficoltà non si demoralizza e nutre nel suo cuore la speranza di diventare un ciclista professionista. Attualmente si dedica esclusivamente al ciclismo sperando di essere convocato dalla Selezione Nazionale del suo paese per partecipare ad alcune competizioni a tappe in Africa.
Jimmy despite many difficulties does not get demoralized and feeds in his heart the hope of becoming a professional cyclist. Currently he is dedicating his self only to cycling hoping to be selected from the National Selection of his country to participate in some African stage competitions.
Jimmy ha esordito vincendo la sua prima gara a Goma. Quella vittoria gli valse la convocazione per un ritiro in Sudafrica con la Selezione della Repubblica Democratica del Congo e successivamente partecipò al Tour du Congo, la gara più importante del suo paese.
Jimmy made his debut winning his first race in Goma. That victory permitted to him the convocation for a retreat in South Africa with the Selection of Democratic Republic of Congo and at a later time he participated in Tour du Congo, the most important race of his country.
Nella RDC (Repubblica Democratica del Congo) ci sono 3 team nazionali e Jimmy è nella seconda squadra. Dopo aver corso in Congo ha partecipato a corse anche in Benin e in Angola, per poi vincere il Campionato Nazionale nel 2016. Questa vittoria gli ha permesso di partecipare a diverse competizioni come il Tour du Madagascar dove ha concluso al 5° posto, il Tour du Togo, il Tour du Senegal, il Tour of Camerun, il Campionato Continentale in Egitto e poi nuovamente in Benin dove oltre ad aver vinto la maglia di miglior giovane ho ottenuto un 4°posto.
In DRC (Democratic Republic of Congo) there are three national teams and Jimmy is on the the second team. After having raced in Congo he also participated in races in Benin and Angola, to then win the National Championship in 2016. This victory allowed him to participate in various competitions such as the Tour du Madagascar where he concluded on fifth place, the Tour du Togo, the Tour du Senegal, the Tour of Cameroon, the Continental Championship in Egypt and then again in Benin where in addition to winning the best young jersey I got a fourth place.
Il Tour du Camerun 2019 era un obiettivo di Jimmy, sfortunatamente arrivò tardi con il suo team alla partenza della prima tappa. Si presentarono a Akonolinga (sede di partenza) alle 6 del mattino, dopo due giorni di viaggio tutt’altro che tranquilli, mentre la partenza era prevista per le 9. Nonostante tutto Jimmy ottene buoni risultati tra cui un 9° posto nell’ultima tappa.
The Tour du Cameroon was a goal for Jimmy, unfortunately he arrived late with his team at the start of the first stage. They arrived in Akonolinga (place of departure) at 6:00 am, after two days of travel in which all anything else other than calm, while the start scheduled at 9:00 am. Despite all Jimmy got good results, including a ninth place in the last stage.
Prima del Camerun Jimmy aveva corso anche in Egitto il Tour of Egypt. Al termine della prima frazione venne squalificato dalla corsa in quando la giuria non lo vide in gruppo fino alle fasi finali ed era stato iscritto in due squadre: RDC National Team e Team Ambrass the World. Recentemente ha partecipato al campionato nazionale e ha vinto una gara nel suo paese.
Before Cameroon, Jimmy has raced in Egypt the Tour of Egypt. At the end of the first stage he was disqualified from the race because the jury didn’t see him in the peloton until the final phase and he had been enrolled in two teams: RDC National Team and Team Ambrass the World. Recently he has participated in the National Championship and he won a race in his country.
Il suo idolo è Valverde mentre il suo piatto preferito è riso, pesce e ananas. In televisione oltre alle partite di calcio guarda il Tour de France, il tennis e programmi musicali.
His idol is Valverde while is favourite dish is rice, fish and pineapple. In televsion other football matches he watches the Tour de France, tennis and musical programmes.
